Volunteer Appreciation

7 New Families in January

THC is proud to report that we have already experienced unprecedented success in 2011 by moving in 7 families from the DC shelters.  This success was made possibly byTHC’s church and corporate supporters who answered our call when asked to furnish 7 Partner Arms apartments in less than a month.  Our most sincere gratitude goes to the following donors for furnishing the homes of our new families:

-Rodney Beard, parishioner of Christ Episcopal Church, Rockville
-Christ Episcopal Church, Georgetown
-Mount Moriah Baptist Church, DC - Women’s Ministry
-St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, DC
-St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church, Bethesda
-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, DC
-St. John’s Episcopal Church, Norwood Parish

We would also like to thank our corporate supporters and their generous staff for participating in the AAP program.  BuckleySandler staff (pictured above) furnished a 3-bedroom apartment on behalf of Buckley Kolar Charitable Foundation and the staff of Roumell Asset Management (pictured below) furnished an apartment for a mother and 2 toddler boys.  The Community Partnership made a significant contribution by providing all of the large furniture items which made this entire effort possible.

Freddie Mac Work Day

Thank you to all of the Freddie Mac employees who came to the Freddie Mac Work Day at THC’s Partner Arms 1 facility on June 11.  Freddie Mac Volunteers planted flowers and shrubs throughout the front and backyard of PA1.  Also in the backyard, volunteers built a full-size picnic table and sanded an entire wooden playground unit.  The energy, effort, and resources from companies such as Freddie Mac greatly improve PA1’s external presence on Kennedy Street while also enhancing the living conditions for THC families.

“It was an absolute pleasure for us to do the project with THC @ Partner Arms I. Sentiments of appreciation and support from the staff and residents were expressed throughout the day and it made our experience even more meaningful.”
-Tracey D. Taylor, Community Relations, Freddie Mac

Urban Institute Summer Academy

On June 12, the Urban Institute Summer Policy Fellows came to THC’s Partner Arms 1 site to clean up and beautify the backyard area while also organizing, cleaning, and taking an inventory of the PA1 storage room.
“We have great admiration for the important work of the Transitional Housing Corporation.  We are delighted to have been able to do our small part to help out with your organization’s much needed efforts.”
-Lynette Rawlings, Ph.D., Founder and Director of the Urban Institute Summer Academy
