The Affordable Housing Mission
Providing transitional and supportive housing is only the beginning to helping at risk families achieve lives of self-sufficiency. Affordable housing with supportive services is the key to ending homelessness.
Transitional Housing Corporation created THC Affordable Housing, Inc. in 2005 as a separate 501(c)3 non-profit to carry out the mission of developing affordable housing for low and moderate income families, individuals and seniors coupled with resident services that are vital to sustaining stability and independence. Resident services would include:
Employment referral
Credit counseling and budgeting
Homeownership counseling
Youth enrichment

Fort View Apartments
Construction began in May of 2010 on Fort View Apartments located in the Brightwood neighborhood in NW Washington, DC. This 62-unit abandoned building was purchased by THCAH in 2007 with the assistance of the District of Columbia and Episcopal Diocese of Washington.
The property will have an on-site management office, computer lab and resident service space. Upon completion, Fort View Apartments will contain 32 apartments for families and individuals earning up to 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI) with 18 units available for the very low income (0-30% AMI) through the District’s Local Rent Supplement Program. The venture will be completed May of 2011.
Webster Gardens Apartments
Located across from St. Paul’s Church, Rock Creek Parish and originally built in 1921, Webster Gardens was the first garden-style apartment constructed in the District. However deferred maintenance over the years has allowed the property to fall into serious disrepair. Many of the tenants are elderly and have no other place to live.
THCAH, Somerset Development Company, LLC and the Webster Garden Tenants Association are partnering to preserve the 52-unit complex as affordable rental housing and as a historic landmark. Construction began in May of 2010 and the venture will be completed in February of 2011.
